Linguistics

Son3 was expressing his sometimes confusion over the spellings of whether and weather.

"I've been going around with your older siblings over this for years. If you'd say the words right, you wouldn't have any trouble spelling them."

"The dictionary says both pronunciations are correct: hweth-er and weth-er," he replied.

"Yes, that is what the dictionary says today. Over the years, our language has become mangled. Listen, when I was 5 years old, there wasn't any question at all about how to pronounce (h)whether, (h)what,
(h)when, (h)where, (h)why," I said, emphasizing the breathy "h" in the pronunciations. "And we didn't have any problems spelling the words."

"Yeah, but people thought the world was flat back then, too...and weren't they still bleeding people?"

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. ~Galatians 3:26

Little Nibblers

Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. ~Psalm 135:6

Name the Lane

This is a portion of the lane between the two pastures. The north pasture is in the distance, behind the CowNots. We need to name this lane...because I'm squirrelly enough to do something like that.

I'd like it to have a name which could have come from the mind of Anne Shirley. To think of a name that lavish and lyrical, you're going to have to imagine leaves on the trees, because it's just not that warm here yet, and I'm too impatient to wait for the leaves. As long as you're imagining things, you can put some flowers in the lane too. There won't ever be any, but you need to think beautiful, if you're going to have Anne Shirley thoughts.

Let me help ya out here...

Better? Even the dandelions help, don't they. There could be a butterfly in the lane someday.

I've given you a lot of help here with your task. I'm a good helper. Now put your thinking caps on, and use the comments box to name that lane.

And thank you.

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. ~Isaiah 40:8

On to Greener Pastures

My fellows finished CowNot fencing the north pasture, then reworked one section of fence to open a lane for passage from the original, mightily spring-nibbled pasture to the new, thereby increasing grazing space by more than 100%. If our CowNots were fainters, they would have fainted over the lush offerings in the lane. Instead, we were treated to a merry, melodious, choir of munch-munch-munching. Mayhap ya would have had to be there.

In the lane there's a play gym for the babies...

...and a CowNot patio

...where they can have cookouts or luaus
or whatever sorts of parties CowNots enjoy.

Happy Happy CowNots

Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things. Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
~Joel 2:21, 22

Bunnies

"You wanna see some baby bunnies?" Son3 asked as he walked through the back door, his t-shirt tail folded up to create a sling. When we put them on the kitchen table, we learned that they're already good and fast hoppers, so we all got pretty loud, and there were hands and arms flying like crazy as we recaptured them and put them in a box.

Aww, babies.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5
