Of Course

Weather conditions and passing around the epizudiac have delayed for nearly two months the planned ham feast with Joycie and part of her brood. We ate the first ham, ourselves, because something just didn't seem right about a piece of pig claiming it wouldn't go south inside of 2 months. Never trust a pig or the weather prognosticators.

Enter pig be-hind #2. And Joycie's brood is on their way down. And yesterday the oven said, "NO! Not doin' it. Not baking these cake layers, and I'm not gonna cook that pig tomorrow." Of course.

Appliance fix-it people said they'd rush right out -- five days from now. Of course.

No worries. When we realized after we bought the house how small the oven is, we brought in a microwave-convection oven to augment our baking capacity. Over the past year, I've employed it for baking a little less than a handful of times, so the convection feature is about brand-spankin' new. Riddle me this: Why, then, has it set up a raucous, wall quaking, head-banging rumble when it runs? Of course. *growling*

So Charles has been twitching on his pillow since I fired up the convection oven and stuffed-poked-rammed in that pig rump at 5:00 this morning. I became mesmerized, watching the pig-piece twirl while preparing Bammy's breakfast and nearly fried his egg to rubber. "Oh! I forgot what I was doing!"

There are two more cakes to bake and biscuits for eight, and who knows how long Porky's gonna twirl. We'll figure it all out...of course.

And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. ~Luke 21:34-36

Oh Baby

About 12 years and two weeks ago, my obstetrician said in a hushed tone, "Someone better be praying bigtime for this baby." Realizing how discouraging her somber pronouncement had seemed, she soon said cheerfully, "I'm really looking forward to spanking him!" A couple of weeks later, she was as joyful as we to welcome a healthy little boy into the world and forgot all about her desire to smack the kid. I worked hard for this one. Oh baby, has he ever been worth it!

SvelteNot

I suppose the combination of two Thanksgiving feasts and the approaching double-nickel birthday are doing a number on me. When the second garment literally ripped, split, cried UNCLE on my burgeoning person yesterday, determined to have a positive attitude about this abasing anomaly, I thought Wonder Woman. I'm Wonder Woman!

Oh wait.....that was The Incredible Hulk, wasn't it.

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me. Proverbs 30:8

Really, Really Busy(Not)

He's not even thinkin' about it.

I'm thinkin' about it.

I was thinking about knitting,
but someone took my seat again, the sluggard.

[This is a barking cat; never wake a barking cat. Scary.]

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. ~Proverbs 6:6

2008 - New Day

"We will rejoice and be glad in thee."
Song of Solomon 1:4

We will be glad and rejoice in thee. We will not open the gates of the year to the dolorous notes of the sackbut, but to the sweet strains of the harp of joy, and the high sounding cymbals of gladness. “O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise unto the rock of our salvation.” We, the called and faithful and chosen, we will drive away our griefs, and set up our banners of confidence in the name of God. ...What heavens are laid up in Jesus! What rivers of infinite bliss have their source, aye, and every drop of their fulness in him! Since, O sweet Lord Jesus, thou art the present portion of thy people, favour us this year with such a sense of thy preciousness, that from its first to its last day we may be glad and rejoice in thee. Let January open with joy in the Lord, and December close with gladness in Jesus.
