In the Rut

The deer. They're in the rut. (Just listen to me all talkin' like I know wildlife lingo.) I'd like to RUT them upside the head.

We planted a couple of pretty little fir trees at the front of our property last spring, and with a moist summer, they were thriving. I could imagine their one day stately presence hiding our home and acting as a barrier against some of that gravel road dust.

"The deer ruined our trees." Truer words had never been spoken. No, I didn't want to go see, but thanks for the invitation anyway. I did eventually take a look. Bad.

So the fellows moved the trailcam from the woods to the front yard. Caught on film:

I discovered that Mr. I Believe In Skunk Monkeys enjoyed a little spin in the photo editing program. Hey, it was just sitting there on the screen, and it didn't have any copyright marks on it or anything, so I saved it. And I'm sharing. Since I don't do artwork on the fridge, I gotta stick it somewhere:

Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord. ~Psalm 150:6

The bucks mash their heads against them. Scent glands on the tops of their heads. Four more photos overnight, and the trees are 'bout down for the count. Even with the first occurence, it was too late to fence the trees, so we're letting them do their thing.
