Rug - It's Growing

Funny how things have a way of working themselves out.  Initially disappointed that this blog layout won't accept larger photos than the old one, now I can use the photos to help stop the stringing of my words from one side of the horizon to the other.  This photo was captured by Son4 the afternoon of the 6th, and truth be known, by the time this post publishes, I expect the entire rug will be off the loom, for on the morning of the 7th, it's draping far over the edge of the table, and there are only 3 more strips to weave.

What you see here will actually be longer than it appears, for this maiden voyage in peg loom weaving has taught me that progress really scrunches what's come before.  That would be keen, if one wanted a 30-pound, 3-foot long rug, but one doesn't.  She'll adjust the scrunching when it comes off the loom and have a 4' x 5' rug.  Cool.  ºÜº

Are you working on any indoor projects during these frosty months?

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.  ~Psalm 91:1-4

And here I was thinking, "WOW! That rug is really going to be plush & thick...nice to walk on!" Now you tell me you're gonna stretch all that out of it. I understand tho', 'bout it being 30 lbs. & 3 ft. short if you didn't. ºÜº I love the colors you're using & can't wait to see the finished product in place!!

Oh yeah...I've been working on QuickBooks billing. Been spending HOURS upon HOURS trying to figure out how to set up customer accounts that pay a set dollar amount monthly...such as a car payment. It ain't workin'. I'd rather be weaving!! :\

Don't worry your pretty little head, because it's still thick and plush. When I said scrunched, I meant SCRUNCHED. Imagine 8 yards of fabric plus 8 bed sheets sizes twin through queen, scrunched into an area 4' x 5'. Cush. What I eliminated was rigid.

While you're at it, imagine me on the floor with Son4, measuring and tugging and tugging and measuring, and tying knots in warp yarn and whining and WHINING and WHINING. PrettyNot picture.

Got the picture? You'll get THE picture tomorrow or the next day. Now I'm tacking down tie-on fabric tails and hiding warp yarn tails (aka "fringe"). Me thinks I spend enough time on the fringes, without adding more to my life. Get that fringe out of here! *cough* *splutter* ºÜº

Oh. There you are again. I, too, would rather be weaving.

*giving a genuine, caring pat on the head and suggesting a cup o' green tea*

Green tea? I don't know. Talk to the fingers. Sometimes they have a mind of their own. :o/

I love the rug you are weaving! My sweet daughter and I have been debating whether or not to toss our hands into such a new endeavor ourselves...I'm afraid though that all of my other unfinished projects may just attack me in my sleep if I try it though. But your pretty rug has me seriously thinking....but....I---MUST----FIGHT---THE----TEMPTATION---!!!

We'll see how it goes ;-)

Jeannie [nice to see you], this is probably quite bad of me, but I can assure you your languishing projects will sit quietly, should you decide to weave. Trust me. I truly know what I'm talking about. *sheepish smile* I'd highly recommend the peg loom, if you cave. (I'm having a few little fits with the pot holder loom, but I'm glad to have it.) In the meantime, keep your eyes open for garage sale or thrift store sheets, and hang onto unwearable clothes for small projects. I've read old blue jeans make good warp.

What are some of your home or handmade projects or interests, other than educating children and coming up with great, money-saving recipes? ← Like that, alone, wouldn't keep a body busy!
